Junior Archery Olympic Development (JOAD) - JOAD or Junior Olympic Archery Development is a National Archery Association (NAA) program intended to provide archery instruction and competition for young archers across the country. The JOAD program allows young archers the opportunity to get out and shoot with fellow archers of all different abilities as well as participate in local and national tournaments. Through the JOAD Olympian Awards program, these archers can earn incentives as they develop and improve their scores up thru the ranks of Yeoman, Jr. bowman, Bowman, Junior Archer, Archer, Master Archer, Expert Archer, Olympian, Silver and Gold Olympian. Each archer can advance at his or her own pace. Success at each level is dependent on the individual's skill and willingness to apply themselves.
The JOAD program is an effort to provide a basic organizational guide for junior archery activities. The NAA, with its Olympic membership affiliation, is the guiding force for these potential Olympic and international archery contestants. The program is also intended to provide the necessary guidance for the recreational archer who is interested in archery purely for the enjoyment of shooting a bow and arrow. Youth may participate in the JOAD program through the calendar year of their 18th birthday. JOAD sponsors tournaments in which the archers are organized into classes by age group. The Papago FITA Archers' JOAD program is divided into two levels and is only available to club members.
Level I - This is the starting point for JOAD Archery. Archers start to learn more advance archery form and techniques. This is a non-stuctured class where Archers will shoot on their own but instructors will be on hand to correct and encourage each JOAD member. Instructors work with each Archers to come up with realistic goals and practice schedules. Competition Archery is also introduced at this level. There is no fee for the Level I JOAD Program. We do encourage that all Archers purchase their own equipment at this time. It is important that archers start using equipment fitted for them and use the same equipment everytime they shoot. If you do not have your own equipment the club can advise you on your purchase.
Level II - This is the competitive JOAD Team level.
